This is my proudest attempt at pattern matching on a shirt for my partner (finished days before lockdown started so unfortunately hardly ever worn). The pattern matching was such a headache I promised myself never again but today’s session with @thriftystitcher might have just changed my mind – I think it would be much easier now I’ve learnt all the tips and tricks! He’s an engineer by the way… hence the fabric choice! Maybe I’ll get a modeled picture before the make is a year old, although I’m not holding my breath! Pattern: Simon shirt from @freesewing_org Fabric: poplin bought from @minervadotcom Image description: a close up of a button placket on a man’s shirt. The fabric is an off white cotton poplin with blue technical drawings of aircraft. Seeing as I made this dress to be worn when working at home it had to be comfortable when sitting down. I made the skirt the full width of the cloth to make sure it was nice and roomy. The ashton top bodice also has a nice relaxed fit so the two paired together makes for a super comfortable fit whilst the fabric adds some style and gives it a smarter look (might be useful for if I ever go back to the office!) At the moment I am spending pretty much all of my time at home and so comfort is key (I have been working from home since March due to the pandemic and canโ€™t see that changing anytime soon). However, there is only so much time you can spend in t-shirts and jogging bottoms before you long to put on a pretty dress! I started dreaming up the perfect working-from-home dress with the ideal combination of comfort and style. I wanted a loose fit so that I could still feel comfortable whilst sat at my home office but I also wanted to feel somewhat put-together and presentable when I join what feels like the 100th zoom call of the week!! You can see the colour of my coat much more clearly in this photo. The mixture of black and blue gives it a bit more of a casual look than a solid colour. I had to have a little sit down on our walk on Sunday because I was struggling with fatigue but that gave me the perfect excuse to take a #sewnshownseated photo. Many of us spend a lot of time sat down for many different reasons and so it can be especially important to see how a pattern looks when seated before embarking on the making process Pattern: cocoon coat by @sewoveritlondon Fabric: AD gifted in exchange for a blog post. Yesterday was the perfect autumn morning to take my new coat for a spin! It was crisp and fresh with a light mist lingering in the air! I really took it slow with this one and I think it shows. In total this coat took 6 weeks from start to finish. Partly due to ill health and so I needed to slow it down but also partly so I could take my time, learn new techniques, and cherish every stitch. You can read all about it on the new @minervadotcom site – have you seen it by the way, it is fantastic! I’ll also be sharing some more pictures here and probably another blog post with a review of the patten and some of the techniques and alterations so watch this space!
