Me-Made-May 2018

Can you believe we have reached the end of Me Made May! For the uninitiated, Me Made May is the brainchild of Zoe at “So, Zo, What do you know?”. This challenge encourages those of us who make our clothes to develop a better relationship with our handmade wardrobe. This year I have been taking part again and I set myself a big challenge to wear only me-made clothing (with the exception of underwear, socks, tights and footwear) throughout May 2018′

In order to keep account of my challenge I posted daily pictures on Instagram stories and saved them all to my highlights so you can see the full month there! WARNING: I did take the pics first thing in the morning so there’s a few blurred eyes, and confused expressions!

Me-Made-May 2018 – I did it!

So how did I get on? Well I am so pleased to say I did it – only me-made clothes for the whole of May!It really was a difficult challenge and I cant say there weren’t some days I thought about reaching for an old pair of jeans or a t-shirt but this helped me realise where some of the gaps were and I set about to fix it!

In the very first week I quickly realised I was going to miss all of my old cardigans as these are pretty much a daily staple for me – so I made myself one! The Kinder cardi from A beginners guide to sewing with knits was the perfect choice and I love my new cardi – keep your eyes peeled for a blog post on this coming soon!

By the end of week 2 we were at the half way point and I had realised just how well my handmade wardrobe was working for me and there were many of my makes that I was reaching for time and time again – especially my many new basic t’s and so I decided to make some more! During May I added 2 new Frankie t’s to my wardrobe – now I just need to snap some proper pics so I can share those with you too!

This year, May has been particularly hot. I have to admit I am not a fan of hot weather and I have never really found any clothes that I like to wear on hot days as this is the type of clothes I like least but I am starting to make it work for me – I found that I love my Penny dress for hot days as the light and floaty style keeps me cool but also covered up – no pasty white legs on show!!

Last year, the biggest problem that I discovered during Me-Made-May was the lack of casual clothes for the weekend and so I vowed to make some casual trousers. A few months ago I did just that and made the Capri trousers and the jumpsuit trousers from the GBSB Fashion with fabric book (unblogged) and they certainly filled this hole. I really love those trousers and was always waiting eagerly for them to come out of the wash so I definitely think I need another pairs (I already have the fabric so they might even be my next make).
